How the Housing Sentry-Basic Works |
Using the Housing Sentry-Basic is simple and adds very little time or steps to your pre-dive routine. Set up your camera and housing as normal. | ![]() |
Once your camera is in place and the housing is closed, remove the block-off plug from the vacuum connector. | ![]() |
Insert the input fitting on the hose of the manual pump into the vacuum connector. Use the pump to create a vacuum of 10 inHg. | ![]() |
When the vacuum has reached 10 inHg, stop pumping. Remove the input fitting and then insert the block-off plug into the vacuum connector. | ![]() |
Allow the housing to rest for a period of at least fifteen minutes in a shady location that is not greatly different in temperature.
Reconnect the pump and check the level of vacuum showing on the gauge. There will be a slight (less than 0.5 inHg) loss of vacuum when you reconnect the pump. The gauge should indicate a vacuum of about 9.5 to 10.5 inHg. | ![]() |
If the vacuum reading is not within these limits, you most likely have a seal problem. The problem should be identified and fixed before you dive with the housing. Once you have resolved the problem, restart these steps from the beginning.
If the vacuum reading is between the 9.5 to 10.5 inHg indicating the vacuum is being maintained, proceed to the next step.
Remove the input fitting and then insert the block-off plug into the vacuum connector. | ![]() |
You may do a normal leak-check dunk in the camera bucket or just get started diving. |
|
At the end of the dive, rinse your housing as normal. If you are planning to use the exact set-up (no
battery, memory, lens or port change) on your next dive, leave the vacuum drawn on the housing and re-check the level before
re-entering the water |
|
If you need to make a change to the set-up, first remove the block-off plug from the vacuum connector. Then, connect the manual pump by inserting the input fitting into the vacuum connector and release the vacuum by pressing the release lever on the pump. | ![]() |
You can open your housing as normal once the vacuum has been released. |
